            Program Purpose

            _ Who Are We?

Touched By An Angel Ministries, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c) (3) interdenominational, faith-based homeless ministry located in the former Extended Stay Motel at 3491 62nd Avenue North, Pinellas Park.  There are 42 apartment units on-site of which 25 units are used for emergency and transitional housing.  Presently, we are accommodating homeless families with several adults and children.  In addition, there are homeless men and women now residing here.  In the past year, we have helped over 1,000’s homeless people.  Every day we are blessed with new people to help.

            Background

Founded in 2003, Touched By An Angel Ministries has served the community by taking the initiative to tackle homelessness in the Tampa Bay area. While residing in one of the lowest income neighborhoods in the Tampa Bay area, South St. Petersburg, Touched By An Angel Ministries has been striving to make our community full of hope, love, joy, and peace. Founded by Pastors Jeffery and Vonda Polhill, this ministry has been one of the turning points of the community.  With good solid spiritual teachings, Touched By An Angel Ministries has operated a homeless outreach ministry for the past eight years.  It has been at the former Extended Stay Motel in Pinellas Park since May 2009.  The ministry provides emergency and transitional housing and associated services in a safe, clean and wholesome environment.  The program focuses on breaking the cycle of homelessness for individuals and families so that they may become functional and self-sustaining members of our community.  We have correlated with Police officers from the City of Pinellas Park and the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Department to place and refer homeless families and individuals to our program.  IN THIS MANNER WE EFFECTIVELY KEEP THE HOMELESS OFF THE STREETS IN PINELLAS PARK

            The Homeless

These are the statistics just in Pinellas County

_ According to the Housing and Urban Development July 2008 3rd Homeless Assessment Report to Congress, in a single night in January 2007, HUD showed there were over 670,000 homeless people nationwide in the United States. HUD has reported the number of chronically homeless people (those with repeated episodes or who have been homeless for long periods, 2007 data) as over 120,000.From October 2006 to September 2007, over 1.5 million people used an emergency shelter and/or transitional housing during the 12-month period. That means that about 1 in every 200 persons in the United States was in a homeless facility in that time period. 70% of those were individuals without a family, and 30% of those were families. Over 6,235 homeless people in Pinellas County, 31% are under the age of 18.
